The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has terminated its probe on the import surge of galvanized iron (GI) sheets, coils and strips and prepainted galvanized iron (PPGI) and prepainted galvanized aluminum zinc (PPGL).
The termination of the preliminary safeguard measure investigation was contained in Department Administrative Order (DAO)No. 21-06, Series of 2021 signed by DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez on Sept. 24, 2021.
The DTI said it received on Jan. 14, 2021 anotice of withdrawalas well as a request to archive from Sonic Steel Industries of its application for safeguards on GI sheets, GL and PPGI-PPGL.
Sonic said the request has been rendered moot byDTI DAO No. 20-10 series of 2020 which mandates that all hot-dip metallic coated and prepainted steel coils and sheets for roofing shall have a minimum total coated thickness of 0.4 millimeter (mm).
The DAO, Sonic said, had effectively prohibited the manufacture and sale of al hot-dip metallic-coated and pre-painted galvanized steel coils and sheets. — Irma Isip
